This article discusses the recommended troubleshooting steps when encountering issues with LOIS for Notes. There are several possibilities to check and rule out while troubleshooting.
Heads Up!
Avoid repeatedly pairing and un-pairing your pen. Once paired, you should un-pair or “forget” the pen only when instructed or when transferring devices. Otherwise, pairing and un-pairing regularly can cause issues that require servicing.
Troubleshoot Pairing
If the Meetings app cannot find your LOIS for Notes smart pen, try the following troubleshooting steps in order. After each step, check whether the pen appears as a pairable device in the app. If not, continue to the next step.
- Charge the pen for a few minutes. Pairing issues are usually caused by low battery. Recharge the pen’s battery for a few minutes via USB, and then try pairing again.
- Add and remove the cap. Reinitiate pairing mode by re-capping the pen and removing the cap again. Try pairing again when the LED light is flashing blue.
Heads Up!
If the pen’s light is persistently green, even after removing the cap, stop here and contact Filevine support. If you are still having issues with pairing, but the light is not persistently green, continue to the next troubleshooting step.
-
Tap “See all pens,” if applicable. If you used the pen’s serial number to start the pairing process, and the pen does not appear, tap See all pens to allow the app to scan for any nearby LOIS for Notes smart pen.
-
Use the “Quick Scan” technique. The pen is discoverable for about five seconds after removing the cap. Re-cap the pen and return to the first pairing step in the app (pictured below). Tap Find nearby pens, and then immediately remove the cap. Make sure the pen’s light is still flashing blue when you select the pen in the app.
- Write with the pen for a few seconds. Writing can wake the pen. Try using the pen to write or scribble on paper for a few seconds. If the light starts flashing blue, or if you feel a vibration, try pairing again.
- Try pairing while the pen is charging. Connect the pen to power via USB, and reattempt pairing while the pen is plugged in.
- Hold the pen against paper for 3 seconds. Press the tip of the pen against paper, and hold it still for 3 seconds. If the light starts flashing blue, or if you feel a vibration, try pairing again.
- Confirm the pen is not already paired elsewhere. Each pen can be connected with one app at a time only. Make sure the pen is not paired with another device or another installation of the app.
If the issue persists after trying these steps—and especially if the pen’s light stays green and does not appear either in the Meetings app or in your device’s Bluetooth settings—reach out to Filevine support.
Troubleshoot Syncing
If your written notes are not syncing with the LOIS for Meetings app, try the following troubleshooting steps in order.
- Confirm the pen is connected to the app. In the lower navigation bar of the Meetings app, tap the profile icon, and then tap Filevine Smart Pen. Check whether the pen shows as connected. If not, follow the steps to pair the pen or troubleshoot pairing.
- Write with the pen for a few seconds. Writing can wake the pen. Try using the pen to write or scribble on paper for a few seconds. Wait a few moments, and then check whether your notes have synced.
- Confirm your device has an internet connection. The Meetings app requires an active internet connection to sync written notes. Make sure your iOS device has an active connection to WiFi or cellular data.
- Restart the app. Force-close and reopen the Meetings app. If issues persist or the app becomes stuck on a loading screen, restart your mobile device.
If the issue persists after trying these steps, reach out to Filevine support.
