The Med Chron includes information from all project documents that have been classified as medical records. As new documents are added to the project, the Med Chron is automatically updated to include information from those documents. Typically, new documents will be available in Med Chron the same day they are uploaded.

Med Chron Tabs
The Med Chron contains five tabs, and each tab presents different types of information based on the medical records documents.
In any tab, you can use the keyword search in the top right corner to search that tab. All instances of the keyword will be highlighted in the tab.
Case Overview
The Case Overview provides a brief overview of the key highlights in the case presented in a series titled paragraphs. This tab serves as a quick reminder of or introduction to what the case is about.
The right side panel displays an outline of the content.
Patient Profile
The Patient Profile tab collects all information about the patient, including contact info, demographics, social history, and medical history, to the extent it is described in the medical records. In order to avoid information duplication, the patient’s history is not included in other summaries.
The right side panel displays an outline of the content.
Chronology
The Chronology tab displays a timeline of entries, with each entry noting the document name, the provider, the facility, and a brief description.
In the right side panel, you can filter entries by dates, providers, symptoms, and more.
Summary
The Summary tab is a more in-depth summary of all the information. The summary can be grouped by Date, Provider, or Facility.
The summary view can also be “Condensed,” which displays the bullet point version with fewer details, or “Detailed,” which displays a more detailed version in paragraph form.
In the right side panel, you can filter entries by dates, providers, symptoms, and more.
Bills
Bills
The Bills tab displays all extracted medical billing data in a table, including:
- Facility
- Date of service
- Source
- Adjustments
- Charges
- Group: click the toggles to group line items by Facility or Date. Then, click the caret by the facility or date to view individual line items
- Filter: click any column header to sort the table by that column; click again to reverse the sort
- Export: click Download CSV to download the bills as line items in a .csv file; the download is named based on the Filevine project ID, and sorted by facility, then date of service. The names of the source documents are included.
Click on an individual line item to open the Bill Details modal, with the bill details on the left and the source document on the right.
Reference Bubbles
Each item in the Med Chron contains reference bubbles, which reference the source records. The reference bubbles are numbered according to the page of the document where the information is found.
Click on a reference bubble to open the referenced document in the right side panel, with the referenced text highlighted.
Note
In downloaded PDFs, reference bubbles can still be used, but they link to the relevant page of the referenced document, rather than the exact text.
Missing Records
When a Med Chron is initiated in a project, a missing records analysis automatically runs in the background. MedChron compares extracted medical bills against the chronology to identify dates of service where bills exist but corresponding treatment records are absent.
When missing records are found, a missing records tag appears along the top of the Med Chron.
Click the missing records tag to open a review modal, where you can view, download, and resolve the missing records.
Review Missing Records
In the review modal, view a table of the identified missing records, including:
- date of service
- facility
- documentation: the record, with a link to the source; click on the source to open the document within the modal
- reason: the reason this record was identified as missing
Select line items to either mark them as requested or dismiss them. Records that are marked as requested or dismissed will still appear in this table, but they will be marked as requested or dismissed. Dismissed records are no longer included in the missing records count that appears at the top of the Med Chron.
Click the download icon in the review modal to download the table as a .csv file.
Download
To download the Med Chron, click Download in the top right corner, and select your desired options.
The MedChron information is available to download as either a Word document or a PDF, with options for condensed or detailed versions, different groupings, and the inclusion or exclusion of the source medical records. The documents are named based on these selections, as below:
MedChron-Summary-[By-Group][-Short]-[With-Records/Without-Records].pdf
- for grouping: By-Date, By-Facility, By-Provider
- for formats: for condensed summaries “-Short” is included in the document’s name
- for source medical records inclusion: With_Records, Without-Records
Choose to either download these documents to your device or to the Filevine project. If you select the Filevine project, you can select the desired folder location, or create a new folder.
Note
Most options available in the MedChron webpage are also included in the downloaded document, with some limitations. For example, reference bubbles will link to the source document’s page, without highlighting the exact text.
