The project contact is the single main contact for the project and is chosen when the project is created. This article discusses what a project contact is, how to change the project contact, and how to add a project name.

Project Contact
Each project in Filevine is associated with a single contact card called the project contact.
The project contact’s card is chosen or created at the same time the project is created. The project contact’s name often serves as the name for the project, although the project can also be given another name.
In the project, the project contact’s name and profile picture appear in the upper lefthand corner of the project. Click on the name or profile picture to open the contact card, where you can add, remove, or edit any existing information for that contact. Editing the project contact’s card will change the contact card information anywhere that contact is used in your Org, so use caution.
The project contact can also be reported on and used as a mergefield in Doc Generation.
Change the Project Contact
Sometimes, the main contact for a project changes. When this happens, Project Admins can change the project contact to an entirely different or new contact.
Changing the project contact is different than editing the project contact’s card. Editing the contact card will change the contact information anywhere that contact is used in your Org. Instead, changing the project contact for a project will swap the current contact card with another one.
To change the project contact, click on the project contact where it appears in the top left-hand corner of the project to open the contact card. Then, click Change Project Contact.
In the Update Project Contact modal, search for an existing contact or create a new one and click Save.
The project contact will then update to the new chosen contact. The former project contact will remain in the project’s Contacts section with the “Client” label removed from the contact card.
Project Changes
When the project contact is changed, the root folder for project documents will update to reflect the new project contact name.
Project contact replacement fields in folder names set up in the Customs Editor will not update to reflect the new project contact name, and must be updated manually.
Add a Project Name
By default, the project contact name is the name of the project, but you also have the option to add a unique project name. Giving a project an additional name can help organize a client who has multiple cases open with you. It also enables you to organize your caseload by case name and makes projects searchable by more than just the project contact name.
If you’d like the project’s name to be something other than the project contact name, you can add a unique project name by clicking + Project Name above the project contact name in the top left corner of the project.
In the project name text field, enter the name you want for the project and click the checkmark to save.
The new project name will be reflected in the top-left, above the project contact name. The project will be listed by its new project name in search results and in reporting.
You can remove a project name at any time by navigating to the project and clicking on the project name. Remove the entered text, then hit the check-mark to save.
