A task is an item in a project’s Activity feed that includes an assignee and a due date and requires action by the assigned user. Tasks can be used to make assignments for other users, ask questions, mark forwarded emails, remind yourself to do things, and more.
Create a Task
Tasks can be assigned to any team member of a project. To assign a task to a team member, open the relevant project using the search bar in the upper right-hand corner of your screen. If needed, click Activity in the left side menu to navigate to the Activity feed.
At the top of the Activity feed, in the Write a Note box, type the task. Indicate the person assigned to do the task using the “@” sign followed by the team member’s username. For example:
@ericgunderson please call client
Below the box, you’ll see a notice that you’re creating a task for that user. When you’ve enter the task and the assignee, click the Create button on the right-hand side.
That task appears on the project’s Activity feed and in the assigned user’s Task List.
Set Due Date
By default, a task’s due date is set to “today.” You can edit the due date of a task by clicking the item to open it and clicking Set For and selecting a new date. You can also add a due date to a task by using the shortcuts described in the following section.
Task Shortcuts
Tasks can be created and changed using a shortcut syntax in the Write a note box at the top of the activity feed, or in a comment on an already-existing activity item.
To assign a user, use the “@” shortcut. You can also use a shortcut to mention a user:
- @ username assigns the task to the user, so that the task appears on their task feed
- +@ mentions a user, so that the task appears on their user feed, without assigning that user to the task
Designate a due date by using the asterisk "*" sign followed by when you want the task due. For example:

Convert to a Task
Any activity item (except for texts) can be converted to a task by adding an assignee or a due date.
To turn another item into a task, use the shortcuts described in the preceding section. These shortcuts can be added in a comment on the item.
You can also convert another item to a task by clicking on the item to open it, and then clicking the vertical ellipsis menu dropdown. In this dropdown, hover over Assign To and click the username of the desired assignee. Hover over Set Date and click the desired date from the shortcut options or calendar.
If you assign a task without a due date, the due date will default to the current date. If you add a due date to an item without assigning a specific user, the task will be assigned to you. (Adding a due date to an activity item is a great way to add something quickly to your task list so you can return to it later.)
