You can now view and use an updated version of the user feed, project Activity section, and task page. For simplicity, this article uses the term “new feed” to refer to the updated view on all three pages.
Opt-In and Out
While we work to incorporate all existing functionality into the new feed, the legacy feed is still available. We wanted users to experience the new design and functionality without having to wait, so we’ve made the new feed design available with a toggle that users can turn on and off.
Once the new feed has all the functionality of the legacy feed, the ability to toggle the new feed off will be removed.
Toggle On
Across the top of the user feed, Activity Feed, and task page, you’ll see a message inviting you to toggle on the new feed. Click the toggle to turn the new feed on. This action toggles the new feed on (or off) for all three pages.
You can toggle the new feed on and off whenever you like. This toggle is effective at the user level only, so your feed view choice does not affect any other user.
Updated View
In the new view:
- the item type icon is larger and more central
- the project name is clickable and links to the project
- color indicators on the left side of the item mark it as pinned (yellow) or unread (blue)
- the user feed’s file box icon has been replaced with a checkmark icon as the “got it” action, which removes the item from the feed
The new feed has three different views: card view, condensed view, and list view. To switch between views, use the buttons in the top right corner.
Card View
Card is the most expanded view, and includes:
- item icon
- item tags
- project link
- from user
- time and date
- message text
- attachments
- task information
The card view also includes a quick way to assign the item as a task by clicking Assign as Task at the bottom. If the item is already a task, you can change the assignee and the due date without opening the item.
Condensed View
Condensed view allows you to view more items at once and get a better overview look. Condensed view includes:
- item icon
- item tags
- project link
- the first line of the message text
List View
List view includes the same information as condensed view, but it’s distilled even further into a single line for each item. The layout is similar to an email inbox, providing a way for users to scan through their items and quickly mark "Got it."
On the task page, you can mark tasks as complete in list view without opening them—similar to checking off items on a to-do list.
Tip
Keep in mind that marking “got it” and marking a task as complete are two separate actions.
Flyout
Select an item to open its flyout, where you can view and add tags, comments, and other details.
Updated Filters
In the menu along the top of each page, there are new filtering and sorting options available. Select Filter to set up filters based on any of the following criteria:
- Activity Type
- Project
- Assigned to
- Assigned by
- Created by
- Completed by
- Pinned Status
- Task Status
- Due date range
- Created date range
- Tags
To remove a filter, click the x next to that filter along the top, or click Clear Filters to remove all filters. Filters are reset when you refresh or navigate away from the page.
On the task page, you can now quickly filter by a different assignee. Expand the “Assigned to” dropdown, then search for and select the desired assignee.
You also have the option to sort by due date in ascending or descending order on the task page.
New Activity Create
The new feed includes an enhanced experience for creating activity items. In the Activity Feed, select Add new activity. Use the menu along the top to select the type of item to create.
You’ll see relevant fields based on the type of item you select. For example, if you choose Assign a Task, you’ll see fields for the assignee and due date. If you choose Send a Text, you’ll see fields for the sender and recipient numbers.
You can also enter a Subject, which appears above the message text in the feed. (The subject field does not appear if the new feed is toggled off.)
To switch to a different item type, select the corresponding icon in the menu. When you change types, the information you entered in universal fields (like subject and message) will remain, but any type-specific fields (like assignee for a task) will be lost.
When you’re finished, click Add/Create/Send.
Activity Drawer
Previously, users could only create activity items in the project’s Activity Feed. In the new feed, you can use the activity drawer to create activity items anywhere in Filevine.
To start, find and select Create Activity in the top right corner to open the activity drawer. The drawer includes the same updated experience for creating activity items.
Select the project the item is associated with. If you’re currently viewing a project, the Project field automatically fills with that project. Fill in the remaining fields as desired.
The drawer remains open, even if you navigate to another page in Filevine. You can also minimize the drawer, and reopen it later to pick up where you left off.
Keep in mind, you can only open one drawer at a time. You’ll need to finish creating your activity item before you can start a new one.
If you start creating an activity item in the Activity Feed and need to navigate to another page, you can move your item to the drawer to keep working on it. In the Activity Feed, click Open in Drawer. (If you navigate away from the Activity Feed without doing this, your item still moves to the drawer.)
Log a Phone Call
Phone calls are a new type of activity item. When you log a phone call, you can record the date, time, and content of the call, along with the contacts you spoke with.
In the Activity Feed, the new item appears with a phone icon. If the new feed is toggled off, phone call items show as note items, and their subject, date, time, and contacts fields do not display.
