Project Admins can view a project-level audit log from a new built-in section called User Activity Log (also called Project Audit). This section also includes a record of changes to custom fields.
Adding the User Activity Log
The User Activity Log section can be added just like other built-in sections—the new section is added to the project type in the Customs Editor Advanced tool.
- Navigate to main menu > Advanced > Customs Editor. In the dropdown, choose the project type/template where you’d like to add the User Activity Log section.
- In the Sections tab, click Create New Section.
- In the Section Type field, select User Activity Log. Choose the section’s logo and name as desired.
- Click Save.
- In the sections list, use the arrows on the right of each section to reorder where the section will appear in the projects’ section menu.
The User Activity Log will now appear as a new project section in all projects of that type.
Permission Required
The section is visible to Project Admins. It will not show for any users in that project who are not Project Admins.
User Activity Log Section
The User Activity Log section displays all users actions specific to that project from the past 30 days. Hover over a column header for options to hide, sort, or reorder the column.
Each user action appears as a row, with the following columns:
- Log time: date and time the action was performed
- User full name
- Action: create, delete, execute, read, or update
- Affected type: the affected piece of Filevine, e.g. project, person, doc, etc.
- Summary: a short description of the action
For example, if user Alexandra created a new project named “Emma Laurel” on September 10, the row would show as below:
| Log time | User full name | Action | Affected type | Summary |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 9/10/2025 09:11:14 AM |
Alexandra Fullman | Create | Project | Created project: Emma Laurel |
Field Changes
This section gives project Admins the ability to view the old and new values for changes to custom fields of the following types:
- Text: Single Line, Single Line List, Multiple Lines, or Multiple Lines (Large)
- Amount: Currency, Number, Percent, or Decimal
- Date
- Deadline
- Dropdown List
- Multi-Select List
- URL: URL or URL List
- Yes/No
Fields changes are only available in custom (static and collection) sections.
If the user action involves a change to a field, the row includes a time icon. Click this icon to open a modal that displays the field’s name, field selection, and the old and new values.
For example, if Alexandra changed the Vehicle Type field from “Unknown” to “Car,” the modal would show:
| Field Name | Field Selector | Old Value | New Value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vehicle Type | vehicle_type | Unknown | Car |
