Filevine’s Chat allows users to have quick conversations with either a team member or Ask LOIS in a window that can be opened anywhere in Filevine. Read more about the different types of chats:
- Team Chat: talk other team members
- Ask LOIS: ask questions about Filevine and receive project-specific information summaries
- Chat With Your Case (CWYC): FilevineAI users can use the Ask LOIS option to request information, summaries, and analysis about their cases.
In this article, you’ll learn how to navigate the Chat window, how to manage and resolve chat threads, and how to change your chat settings and notifications.
Chat Window Navigation
The Chat icon appears at the top right, next to your profile picture. Click the icon to open the Chat window. Click the icon again or click the “x” to close the window.
The Chat window can be moved and resized. To move, click and drag anywhere in the Chat window header. To resize, hover on top or left side of the Chat window, and then drag to the desired size.
The size is “sticky”—when you close and reopen the Chat window, it will remember the size.
Chat Management
The Chat tab displays the messages of a single chat thread. When you start a new thread or select an existing thread from the Chat History tab, the Chat tab opens. In this tab, you can add a project, create a note or task, or resolve the thread.
Add a Project
To add a project to a chat thread, click on the project icon in the top right corner. Edit the currently-selected project, or add another project.
Added projects appear as hyperlinks in the thread’s attachments.
Create a Note or Task
To create a note or task from a thread, click either the note or the task icon in the top right corner.
Select the message(s) you’d like to include in the item, and click Next.
Select a project. If you are on a project page, that project will be selected, but this selection can be edited. Add a message, and for tasks, select the assignee and due date.
Click Add a Note/Assign a Task, and the item will be added to the project’s activity feed, with the selected messages in the body of the item. The item also appears in the chat thread’s attachments, under the associated project.
Resolve Chats
Once the topic of a chat has been addressed, the chat can be resolved or closed. To resolve a chat, click on the chat’s vertical ellipsis menu and select Resolved.
Tip
You can also resolve multiple chats at once in the Chat History tab. Click Select, select the chats you’d like to resolve, and click Resolve.
Resolved chats can be viewed in the Chat History tab of the chat window, if you filter by either “Resolved” or “All Statuses.”
Resolved chats are marked with the “Resolved” tag, which appears at the right of their listings. Users can view all messages in a resolved chat, but can no longer add new messages.
Chat History
Chat History displays a list of all of your LOIS and team chat threads. You can view your list of chats by clicking on the middle icon in the bottom of the window, or view them in a slide out panel by clicking on the top left corner icon when viewing a single chat thread.
In Chat History, Chat threads are listed in order of most recent activity. Ask LOIS chat threads are marked with the LOIS icon, and team chats show the profile pictures of the Filevine users included.
By default, only active threads are listed. To include or filter for resolved (or closed) threads, click the Active filter.
You can also resolve multiple chat threads at once in this tab. Above the listed threads, click Select. You can either select each desired thread, or click Select All, and then click Resolve.
