Timely is a litigation tool that uses statutes and court rules to generate deadlines based upon a triggering event. Timely is updated as the rules and statutes are updated in each jurisdiction.

Connect to Filevine
Once you’ve been set up, you must connect your Timely account with Filevine. To connect, in Timely, click on your profile (your name) in the top right corner and select Connect To Filevine from the dropdown menu.
You will be directed to select your Filevine login. Enter your team domain in the white box and click the arrow to continue. If you do not have a team domain, click on the blue box above. Then, complete your Filevine login information.
Note: If you do not know your team domain, open up Filevine in a new tab and look at how you are logged in. Your team domain will be listed in place of “app” above.
Once you are connected, you will be able to view all Timely deadlines you have exported to Filevine by clicking Filevine Projects in the profile dropdown menu. Learn more about Viewing Deadlines in Timely.
Add or Manage Users
Additional users can be added to Timely at any time.
Timely Org Manager
The Timely Org Manager can grant access to Timely users within your organization. The Org Manager can view the Manage Users page by opening the menu on the left-hand side of the page.
In the Manager Users page, the Org Manager will see a list of TImely users for the organization. To add a new user, click on the + Invite Users button.
On the following page, enter the email address and select the role and jurisdictions.
If you’d like to invite multiple users with the same role and jurisdictions, click + Add Email to enter additional email addresses to the invite. All invitees will receive an email welcoming them to Timely.
If you would like the user to be able to grant access to other users in your organization, select the “Org Manager” role.
The jurisdictions available to your organization are listed to the right. Select the box on each jurisdiction to which the user should have access. You can select all jurisdictions or grant selective jurisdictions per user.
The email invite will automatically expire within 7 days. If the newly invited user does not create their Timely account before the expiration, the Org Manager will need to resend the invite. The Org Manager can locate the original invite in Timely, click on the down arrow to the far right, and then click Resend Invite.
If a Timely user forgets the login password, there are other login difficulties or issues, or the user wants to request a new password, they can click Forgot Password? on the login screen.
Once in Timely, you can begin by selecting the jurisdiction. In the Jurisdiction box, begin typing and then select from the dropdown.
Once the jurisdiction has been selected, select the triggering event. Enter any additional information about the trigger into the Trigger Label field. For example, if you are serving interrogatories you can identify which set and the whom served. You can enter up to 100 characters in the Trigger Label field. Other applicable fields may appear, such as an additional time field or a service method dropdown.
You can docket one or multiple items at a time. To docket multiple items, click the + Trigger button and select another trigger.
Once you have selected all of the triggers you want to docket, click the Deadline button to continue to the next page. This takes you to the Deadlines screen, where you can see the list of deadlines related to each trigger you selected.
The next page in Timely will provide a list of all deadlines organized by trigger and by deadline date. By default, all deadlines will be selected. If a deadline is not needed, click on the checkmark next to a deadline to un-select it and keep it from being included.
Service Method: Blue Dropdown Box
Some states, depending on how an item is served, require that service must be completed before the deadline. When these types of deadlines exist, the “Service Method” dropdown box will turn blue.
In these jurisdictions, the deadlines which are required to be served and listed as the last day to serve, are the absolute last day, and therefore equivalent to service via personal service. In addition, Timely can also docket the deadlines based on other service methods. Open the dropdown and select the other forms of service methods you use and want docketed.
Additional deadlines, based on the service methods selected, will appear below the particular deadline in blue and will be included in the Filevine export. Review these deadlines and un-select any you do not want to docket.
In the search box in the top right corner, you can search for anything listed within the deadlines shown, including the statute or rule.
After reviewing the deadlines you selected, export the Timely Deadlines you have completed. You are able to export the deadlines in the following formats:
- Filevine Sync (sync the deadlines in Filevine);
- Print (create a PDF of the deadlines);
- Download (download the deadlines as .ics file into any calendar app); or
- Google (download the deadlines directly to Google calendar).
The first time you sync with Filevine, you will be required to log in to your Filevine account.
Once your Filevine account is synced with Timely, select Export > Filevine Sync. You will be prompted to select the Filevine Org and project where you want to export the deadlines. Select the Org and project, and then click Export.
Note: Deadlines can take a few moments to sync with Filevine. When you see “Would you like to start a new deadline?” on the Timely page, this is confirmation that the deadlines have been exported/synced.
In Filevine, the deadlines will appear in the Deadlines section (sometimes called “Reminders”). Timely deadlines exported to Filevine will appear on the Filevine project calendar. If you are subscribed to the project, these deadlines will also appear on your user calendar. Timely deadlines exported to Filevine can also be edited. Learn more about using Timely with Filevine.
When you select the option Export > Print option, you will be prompted to enter a Matter name. The deadlines will print as a list of deadlines in order by date.
When you select Export > Download, the deadlines are saved to an .ics file, which you can import to any calendar application. You will be prompted to enter a Matter name.
When you select Export > Google for the first time, you will be asked to allow Timely to make changes to your calendar. Once you have allowed this, click on the Google option again and choose the calendar to add the deadlines. You will be prompted to enter a Matter name. When using Chrome, the email address currently logged into the browser will auto-populate by default. To change to a different Google calendar, log into Chrome using that account.
