Filevine users can preview and search saved email files from within Filevine. Outlook users can also seamlessly reply to emails and send documents as email attachments—all directly from Filevine.
Preview
Email files can be viewed in Filevine in the full previewer. The text in email files is also searchable, both in the previewer and in the project and global searches.
Note
Email preview applies only to those emails saved as files in the project. Usually, these email files have been saved through the Outlook Add-in or sent to the project email, though users can preview any saved .eml file.
In the Docs section, email files are previewed in the Preview tab of the properties flyout. To open the full previewer, select the file anywhere in the project and click the eye icon.
Email Attachments
In the full previewer, emails with attachments include a dropdown you can use to switch between the email and its attachments.
Selecting an attachment from this dropdown will open the attachment in the full previewer, where you can view and download the document. To switch back to the email file, select it from the same dropdown.
Reply and Forward
Users can also open Outlook through Filevine to respond to emails seamlessly. To reply to an email, select the .eml file anywhere in the project and click the dropdown menu or caret. Hover over Send Email in the dropdown, and then click Reply, Reply All, or Forward.
The reply option creates an email with only the original sender. The reply all option creates an email with all recipients included in the “from” and “CC” fields. The forward option creates an email with forwarding formatting, where you can select a new recipient and include attachments.
When you’ve clicked on one of these options, you will see a file download at the bottom of your screen. Before clicking the file, right-click on the file and select Always Open Files of This Type to skip this step in the future. Clicking on the file will open the email in Outlook.
In the opened Outlook window, you can send the email as you normally would.
Email Attachments
To send a document from the Filevine project as an email attachment, select the document anywhere in the project and open the document’s dropdown menu. In this menu, click Email Document.
Selecting this option will open an Outlook email with the document attached.
You will see a file download at the bottom of your screen. Before clicking the file, right-click on the file and select Always Open Files of This Type to skip this step in the future. Click on the file to open the email in Outlook.
