AI-generated deposition summaries help speed up the process of digesting and synthesizing transcripts, allowing attorneys to focus their energy on other important work.
The testimony portions of the transcript are processed by AI. All other pages, like the title page, appearances, index, and exhibits, are disregarded. For hosted proceedings, a transcript summary is generated automatically after the event concludes. For proceedings hosted outside of Depositions by Filevine, you can purchase a summary when you import the transcript.
You can view and edit the transcript summary in the transcript toolkit. Navigate to the desired case and proceeding, and then select the relevant transcript. In the righthand panel menu, make sure Summary is selected.
Note
If you see a message saying “Get access to full transcript summary,” a summary has not been generated yet. To generate a summary, click the Get access to full transcript summary button and pay the listed price.
Summary Formats
In the Summary panel, use the caret to expand or collapse an individual summary, or click Expand or Collapse at the top of the panel to expand/collapse all summaries.
You can view the transcript summary in three possible formats:
- Narrative: review highlights from the transcript, sorted into topics. Within each topical summary, you can select a citation number to jump to the relevant transcript snippet. Summaries in this format cannot be edited or deleted.
- Page:Line: review incremental “summary paragraphs” in chronological order. Each summary paragraph can be edited or deleted.
- Custom topics: generate your own summaries based on custom topics or criteria.
Edit Page:Line Summaries
In the transcript, utterances with an associated page:line summary display a paragraph icon on the far right. To view all existing page:line summaries in a transcript, select Summary from the righthand side menu, and then select the Page:Line tab.
Each summary displays a description of the selected transcript range, along with summary notes. The note text can be edited inline.
Select a summary to jump to its location in the transcript. Select a summary’s ellipsis icon ⋯ to take one of the following actions:
- Edit: edit the page:line range, description, or note text.
- Copy link: get a shareable link to the transcript range referenced by the summary.
- Delete: delete the summary from the transcript.
Add Custom Topics
In the Summary panel, select the Custom topics tab. In the text box along the bottom, enter the topic you want summary details for, like “Willingness to provide documents” or “Role in the case.” Click Generate.
The custom summary may take up to three minutes to generate. Once generated, you can review the summary and citations in a format similar to the Narrative tab.
To delete a custom topic summary, click the ellipsis icon ⋯, and then click Delete.
Export Summary
To export the narrative, page:line, or custom topic summaries as .docx files, click Export at the top of the transcript toolkit.
In the Export modal, select Summary. Enter a name for the exported file, and select the desired summary format. Click Export to download the .docx summary file to your device.
