Document folders can be used to organize documents in the Docs section of a project. This article discusses how to create document folders and subfolders, move documents into folders, and delete folders.
Follow these steps to create a document folder:
- Navigate to the Docs section. In the left-hand menu of the desired project, select Docs.
- Select + New Folder. At the top of the Docs section, the Filter Docs search bar appears, with the names of your selected Org and project below. Click the downward arrow beside the project name, and select + New Folder.
- Name and create the folder. After selecting + New Folder, a text bar will appear below. Enter the desired name of the new folder in the box, and click the check button to create the folder.
Once a folder is created, it will appear in the Docs section.
You can also create subfolders within folders to better organize your documents. There is no limit to the number of subfolders that can be created.
To create a subfolder, select the folder that you want the subfolder to appear inside. Then, follow the above instructions for creating a folder.
You can move or copy documents to different folders in the project. Move a document by dragging it to the destination folder in the opened folder navigation view.
You can also move or copy one or multiple documents by selecting the documents and clicking the move arrows icon, for multiple documents, or clicking the document’s dropdown menu and selecting Move/Copy for a single document.
The opened modal shows all existing folders in the Docs section. To browse subfolders, click the arrow beside the main folder. Select the desired destination folder and click either Copy Doc(s) or Move Doc(s).
Org Admin users can delete folders. Deleting a folder will delete all of its subfolders and documents.
Note: Deleted documents can be recovered via the Undelete Advanced tool on an individual basis, but the folder structure is not recoverable.
To delete a folder, navigate to the Docs section and select the folder. Click the trashcan icon in the top bar.
In the modal, type “DELETE” and click Remove to confirm the deletion.
Delete Empty Folders
Although only Org Admins can delete folders containing documents, all users can delete empty folders. Before deleting a folder, delete or relocate any documents or subfolders that are inside that folder. Then, select the empty folder and click the trashcan icon in the top bar.
A pop-up will ask you to confirm the deletion. Click Remove to proceed.
