In Filevine, there are two types of tabs: Static tabs and Collections tabs. This distinction is important on the back end of Filevine, especially in creating new tabs in the Customs Editor. They are similar in that both have customizable fields that can store data. Collections tabs, however, are unique because they can hold multiple instances of the same fields. When you open a collections tab (such as the Meds tab or the Insurance tab), you'll see the option to "+Add an Item." After clicking this button, a new card will open for the new item to store data in. After clicking save, you'll be able to view or edit the item by clicking on the card. You can also "Add an Item" again for a new instance of that information.
For an example of how this is used, in the Meds tab you might have an item for each instance of a medical visit or procedure that a client may have. That item may have fields for the date of the hospital/medical visit, the contact card for the hospital or medical professional, the reason for the visit, the treatment details, and the bill amount. If a client has multiple medical procedures or visits, each of them can be stored as individual items for better organization and access.
This is in contrast to static tabs (such as the Intake tab or the Case Summary tab), where only one instance of the fields is needed because the information doesn't typically change or only has one instance. Examples of the fields in static tabs include the date of incident, the client's demographical information, the defendant's information, the details of the incident, the police report, etc.
