With this new field type, you're able to quickly access another relevant case from any customizable tab. We refer to this as nesting a project within another project. You can also create a new case directly from this field. The field can be set up to nest a single case or nest multiple cases. This field type can also be added to your reports.
How to Set Up Project Links
This requires Org Admin access and that the advanced tool, the Customs Editor, has been unlocked on your account by the support team.
This process has three steps, with the second step being optional. By skipping the second step, you will create a one-way link to the nested project. Completing the second step will instruct the system to automatically add a return link back to the first project for a two-way connection between the two projects.
Step 1 of 3
Add the first Project Link field
A) Navigate to the Menu > Advanced > Customs Editor. Open the section you wish to add the nested project to.
B) Click "Add Field" and fill in the required fields (the top half) with "Project Link" or "Project Link List" selected for the field type. Selecting "Project Link" will allow you to nest one project. Selecting "Project Link List" allows you to nest any number of projects, but is more limited, see below**. Please note that once the field has been created, the field type cannot be changed.
C) As you desire, select a specific project type you'd like the search bar to be limited to. Otherwise, leave it as "Any" for the broadest search possible.
D) Click the "Create" button.
Step 2 of 3
Add the second Project Link field (optional)
A) Open the section where you'd like the return link to be.
B) Click "Add Field" and fill in the required fields, including the specific project type, project section, and field name of the field you created in Step 1.
C) Click the "Create" button.
D) Open the settings for the field you created in Step 1 in the customs editor and the system will automatically link them for you.
Step 3 of 3
Nest a case or Create a nested Project using the Project Link field(s)
A) Navigate to the desired project and open the section with the newly added Project Link field.
B) Click "Add Project Link" and search for a case or click on the green plus sign to create a new case to be nested. Create a new contact card, if needed, by following the prompt.
C) Click the "Save" button.
D) If you completed Step 2, you will notice that the nested project has the original project already entered in the field you created.
*There are differences with the reportability of Project Link fields vs Project Link List fields. Only Project Link fields can report on the full information inside of the nested field's client contact card. Project Link List fields can only report the names of each nested project.
**The following combinations of field type and tab type apply to Project Links:
- Project Link to Project Link
- Project Link to Project Link List
- Project Link List to Project Link
- Project Link in a collections section to a Project Link in a non-collection section.
- Project Link in a collections section to a Project Link list in a non-collection section
- Project Link List in a collection section to a Project Link in a non-collection section
