Collaborators are a designation for users that can be assigned in the Team tab of most projects, or universally for the organization under the org section of the setup screen.
The Collaborators Tab
Inside nearly every project there is a “Team” section. Inside that section there are three tabs, including the Collaborators tab. By default the Team section will open with the Followers tab open. Simply click on the word “Collaborators” to switch your view.
In this project, Fred and Jane are Collaborators.
What do Collaborators do?
A person with a Collaborator designation is able to access the project completely. This includes the activity, any custom tabs, vital statistics, contact information, etc. Tasks can be assigned to Collaborators and those tasks will appear in the users’ Tasks list.
Collaborators do not receive updates about the project in their Feed. They also do not receive updates via email on approaching deadlines or text messages sent into the project. To have the activity from a project appear in your Feed, you should be a Follower instead of a collaborator.
Who Should be a Collaborator?
Collaborators are people who need to have access to the project, but who aren’t likely to be involved in day-to-day operations related to it. For example, support staff are often assigned as Collaborators so that they can access needed data in a timely manner, but they aren’t inundated with alerts and discussions.
