Org Admin users can export and import project templates, either within the same Org or to a different Org.
Importing project templates saves the time of setting up a new project template manually. These copied templates can be used to create exact duplicates of the template in another Org, or to provide a starting point to create a similar template.
Types of Imports
Project templates can be exported and imported on three different levels:
- custom sections: export a custom section from a project template and import it to another project template, within or across Orgs
- single project template: export a project template and import it to either the same Org or to a different Org
- all project templates in an Org: export all project templates in an Org and import them to either the same Org or to a different Org
If the section or template already exists in the destination Org, the import will create a copy of the section or template.
What is Included?
Copied project sections or templates include all fields and widgets. Advanced properties like locked, required, and visibility are included.
Doc Generation, Doc Generation Multi-template, and Report Fusion buttons are copied, but the attached templates are not. Auto-tags and auto-move options for fields and widgets are not copied.
Copied project templates also include vitals, and phases, but do not include the folder structure. The taskflows associated with a source template are also copied over when the template is imported.
How to Export and Import
Exporting and importing project templates requires Org Admin permission and access to the Customs Editor and the Import/Export Custom Templates advanced tools. Access to these tools can be managed in the Advanced Access tab.
Navigate to the Customs Editor by clicking Main Menu > Advanced > Customs Editor. Select your Org and then select the project template you wish to export. If you are importing an already-exported file, then navigate to any project template to bring up the Import/Export dropdown options. (Or for custom sections, navigate to the destination project template.)
Click the Import/Export dropdown for more options.
Single Custom Section
To copy a single custom section, find the custom section in the template and click on the export icon next to it. Click the generated file to download it to your computer.
Then, navigate to the Org and project template where you’d like to import, and select Import Section Into: [Template Name] from the Import/Export dropdown.
Select your import file and click Save to import the custom section.
Single Project Template
To copy a single project template, click the Import/Export dropdown and select Export [Template Name].
Click the generated file to download it to your computer. Then, navigate to the Org where you’d like to import the template and select any project template to bring up the Import/Export dropdown there. Click the dropdown and select Import Project Template(s).
Choose your import file and click Save to import the template. If the template already exists in this Org, a copy will be imported.
All Project Templates
To copy all of the project templates in an Org at once, click the Import/Export dropdown and select Export All Project Templates.
Click the generated file to download it to your computer. Then, navigate to the Org where you’d like to import the templates and select any project template to bring up the Import/Export dropdown there. Click the dropdown and select Import Project Template(s).
